—OUR STORY

Ten years ago there was a gap.
Today there's a model.

Tomorrow there's a movement.

Storehouse didn't start as a warehouse. It started as a simple idea: we can figure this out. What followed was a series of problems that kept revealing more problems — and more opportunities. A small hygiene pantry revealed a supply gap. The supply gap revealed a distribution problem. The distribution problem revealed a mismatch between resources and needs that ran deeper than anyone expected. Each solution opened a new door. Nobody designed what Storehouse became — it evolved, one problem at a time. What's behind those doors today is $29.9 million in annual impact. The model is simple: every partner multiplies the impact of every other.

Needs consistently outpace donations. One problem reveals another. It becomes clear that a scalable solution is required — not a bigger pantry, but a fundamentally different model. Jessica meets co founder Nora Ruder while investigating gaps and opportunities in the community.

Storehouse of Community Resources is officially founded. The name is rooted in Malachi 3:10 — the principle of gathering resources together so they can be multiplied. That's not just the inspiration for the name. It's the operating model.

Weekly shipments begin. The model gains traction. Membership grows to 25–30 nonprofits and 20 schools — organizations stretching their program budgets further than they thought possible.

COVID-19 hits. Storehouse pivots to distribute PPE to senior centers, ambulance services, nonprofits, and schools across Michigan. A new partnership with Good360 — one of the largest nonprofit product brokers in the country — opens access to hundreds of retailers and an inventory pipeline worth millions. The ecosystem expands dramatically.

New branding, a growing team, and $29.9 million in goods distributed — part of $91.9 million moved over the past decade. The vision for technology enabled matching between needs and resources has always been there. The right tool hadn't been built yet. AI is changing that. What Storehouse is building next isn't just a warehouse that distributes broadly — it's a system that matches precisely, at scale, in real time.

Volume alone was never the goal. Storehouse focuses its work around three pillars that have always driven its mission — education, workforce stability, and affordable housing — and begins building the technology to match that intention. A platform in development will allow member organizations to surface specific needs and connect them to available resources in real time. The model is evolving from a warehouse that distributes broadly to a system that matches precisely.
